DENMARK

Denmarks history dates back to the Bronze Age when hunters tracked the herds of Reindeer across the snowy plains. When the hunters decided that they liked the land they set up home and have been there ever since. Time seemed to fly by and in what seemed to be the blink of an eye along came the 9th Century, a Viking chieftains son Gorm the Old, endless battles and the Danish monarchy was born. After these pivotal events the countrys history became slightly messy with many battles, assassinations, and strange plots finally resulting in the Kalmar Union of the 14th century, which bound Denmark, Norway and Sweden into an alliance until it was dissolved in 1523. Denmark seems to have developed in a target for any army that fancies their chance. With a disastrous 30 year war with Sweden, the Napoleonic wars of the 1800s,Germany taking control of Jutland & its subsequent revolt, and finally WWII.All of these factors have left a mark on the country are reflected in Denmarks wealthy cultural heritage. Denmark has been called home by several famous writers including Hans Christian Andersen, philosophers such as Soren Kierkegaard, as well as several famous artists, composers and film directors.
Denmark has a fairly mild climate all year round but the winter months where the days are short and the nights are cold but in April when the days get longer and warmer the place comes alive. We think that the best time to visit Denmark is May and June, where will find the climate most rewarding. During the high season of July & August the streets bustle with open-air concerts, markets and fetes but it can get a bit crowded. The country offers various sports & activities such as sailing and windsurfing as excellent hiking, extensive cycle tours and of course excellent fishing.
Denmark can seem an expensive country to visit due to the 25% tax levy but the country remains a beautiful country, which offers its visitors many surprises and warm welcome.
